LISA TAYLOR-AUSTIN – BEHAVIORAL ANALYSISLisa Taylor-Austin, NCC, LPC, LMHC, CFMHE, CFBA , LCPC provides counseling from Milford, CT office via telehealth. She is the owner of the practice and also treats ages 18 and up. Clients describe Lisa Taylor-Austin as approachable, caring and friendly. As result, patients return as partners with her in their counseling journey.

Often, Lisa helps people suffering from anxiety and depression, trauma, as well as, other diagnoses and symptoms. Thus, she helps clients look at their situations with hope. Additionally, she counsels many with relationship and school/work issues, and as a result, patients have a safe space to process their feelings. Prior to private practice, Lisa worked in public and private schools and colleges. Due to this, she often sees teachers and other educational staff because she understands the type of stress the profession can bring. With experience as a 504 Plan coordinator for many years, Lisa can help with accommodation suggestions for college and work. Having vast experience in urban and suburban settings, she has a rich history counseling culturally diverse populations. Often, Lisa counsels people of African-American, Asian, Latin backgrounds and the LGBTQ+ community.

You will find Lisa uses several counseling approaches. First, she teaches and uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT helps clients learn to think of their situation and worry in ways they can control. Second, Lisa uses and is trained in EMDR to heal trauma. In addition, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy helps patients help themselves. Also, Reality Therapy helps patients understand they have choices in their lives. Finally, Solution Focused Brief Therapy quickly addresses issues to help resolve them. As a result, you can feel better and move forward with your life. Lisa is an active professional counselor who is engaged in the sessions with you. She will provide suggestions and guide you to solutions, rather than, be a passive counselor.

Credentials

Of importance, Ms. Taylor-Austin is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Connecticut and Colorado. Additionally, in New York state she is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.  She is also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Out-of-State Telehealth Provider in Florida and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maine.  Also, she is a board certified National Certified Counselor. She is the only nationally Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluator in Connecticut. Most noteworthy, Lisa is also a board Certified Forensic Behavioral Analyst. She earned a Master of Science in Counseling from the State University of New York at Brockport. Also, she has a Bachelor of Science in Developmental and Behavioral Disabilities. In addition, she minored in African-American Studies and Health.  Previously, Lisa was an instructor at Yale University and the University of Southern California.

Ms. Taylor-Austin is a trauma therapist trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) by EMDRIA. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an empirically validated treatment for trauma. She has completed Parts 1 and 2 (40 hours = 20 hours classroom, 20 hours practice) of EMDR training, passed tests, and completed all consultation hours. She is fully trained and a full member of EMDRIA.

Lisa Taylor-Austin has been a professional counselor since 1988.  In 1997 she began work as a forensic expert witness, which she continues today. She knows the important role that understanding mental health issues has in courts of law. Especially relevant, Lisa had the honor of being trained by Dr. Gregory M. Vecchi, retired Chief of the Behavioral Sciences Unit. You may know this from television,  as the BSU of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, better known as the FBI. She has been trained in areas of psychopathology, crisis intervention and active shooters. Of Interest

Ms. Taylor-Austin is a professional member of the American Counseling Association and the American Mental Health Counselors Association. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Forensic Social Sciences Association in San Francisco, California. Also, Lisa is an Associate Member of the Florida Gang Investigator’s Association. Of interest, she presented testimony to the Connecticut General Assembly supporting House Bill 6226. This is a cross reporting bill involving child abuse and animal abuse. She also testified on House Bill 6311. This is bill that prohibits dog breed discrimination in Connecticut.
