She earned a Master of Science in Counseling from the State University of New York at Brockport. Also, she has a Bachelor of Science in Developmental and Behavioral Disabilities. Ms. Taylor-Austin is a trauma therapist trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an empirically validated treatment for trauma. She has completed Part 1 and 2 (40 hours) of EMDR training and is finishing her consultation hours to be fully trauma trained.
Lisa Taylor-Austin has been a professional counselor since 1988. In 1997 she began work as a forensic expert witness, which she continues today. She knows the important role that understanding mental health issues has in courts of law. Especially relevant, Lisa had the honor of being trained by Dr. Gregory M. Vecchi, retired Chief of the Behavioral Sciences Unit. You may know this from television, as the BSU of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, better known as the FBI. She has been trained in areas of psychopathology, crisis intervention and active shooters. Ms. Taylor-Austin is a professional member of the American Counseling Association and the American Mental Health Counselors Association. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Forensic Social Sciences Association in San Francisco, California. Also, Lisa is an Associate Member of the Florida Gang Investigator’s Association. Of interest, she presented testimony to the Connecticut General Assembly supporting House Bill 6226. This is a cross reporting bill involving child abuse and animal abuse. She also testified on House Bill 6311. This is bill that prohibits dog breed discrimination in Connecticut.
